I'd love to start a herbal community project where we grow herbs from scratch and make our own medicines to stock a dispensary, free to take for anyone who needs them. Would anyone be interested in this? I'm trying to get a list of interested people together so I can show that there is a demand when I go trying to persuade people to give us a plot of land. It would have to be close to where I live so I'm looking around the Carlton, Mapperley, Gedling area. If anyone knows of any unused land lying around, give me a shout! I'd be looking for weekly meetings of 2-4 hours on a drop in basis. We'd do a bit of gardening, harvesting of fruit, veg & herbs, maybe share some food and learn how to make plant medicines and use them. Please comment here if you're interested (you'll have to register in order to post).

I've always seen herbalism as something fundamentally local. Plants that are grown locally are fresher, cheaper and maybe even more wholesome for us in some way than far travelled, exotic plants. I'm passionate about our common weeds. I feel our native plants, and to some degree foreign plants that have been grown locally, should have a special place in our hearts, our gardens ... and our medicines! Plants have a unique way of connecting us to our surroundings, of literally grounding us.
